After just one out of the thirty children invited to 7 year old Max’s birthday party showed up, a group of superheroes swerved in to save the day. Max who is from Houston, Texas, was eagerly looking forward to celebrating his birthday with lots of his friends and classmates.
So his mom, Susan, planned a birthday party that was to be held at a local trampoline park. However, on the D day, all of Max’s friends did not come or even RSVP to invitations, except one of his friends who brought along his sister. The young boy was so heartbroken.
Later on, Susann, wrote to a local radio station, 94.5 FM The Buzz, to describe her disappointment that Max’s friends did not come and to remind parents how important it is to RSVP. To her surprise, the radio station decided to read the letter on air.
Fortunately, one of the radio show’s listeners was Brandi Coatsworth,a member of Houston Cosplay for Charity. Brandi, who plays Wonder Woman and her team of superheroes who include Deadpool, Captain America, Batman and Catwoman, then reached out to Susann in July after hearing her letter read over the radio and they started to plan Max a new birthday party.
“Anyone who knows Max and his story was just heartbroken for him. He’s such a great, kind kid that it’s hard to hear something like that happened. When [the radio show] forwarded Brandi’s email, I was floored. I had no idea something like that would or could happen.” Susann said.
She added, “I wasn’t looking to get anything out of it, or any attention at all. The fact that Brandi and Houston Cosplay for Charity jumped in the same day my email was read on the air made my heart smile.”
A month after his birthday, on July 29, Max celebrated a second birthday party. This time with 40 guests including some of the children who couldn’t make it to his first birthday and a number of superheroes and movie characters from the Houston cosplay for charity, and he could not be more happier. Footage from the celebration shows Max beaming in excitement as he hugged the superheroes and took pictures with them.
“The superheroes jumped in our corner without a second thought and have done more than anyone could ask to make sure Max had the best birthday ever. I will never be able to thank them enough.” Susann said.
Talking about the kind act, Brandi said, “It only takes a moment to make a difference in someone’s life. Seeing the pure joy on his face is why we do what we do, and it really warmed our hearts to see such a sweet child so happy.”
