NFL Star Marquise Goodwin Breaks Down During Touchdown Hours After Losing Baby.

Most times, we place our hopes in our athletes and expect them to always deliver a win for us, all the while overlooking the fact that our favorite athletes also have difficulties to deal with off the field. So when San Francisco 49er, Marquise Goodwin, scored a touchdown in an NFL game this week, his emotional celebration meant so much more than just a lead for the winless team.

What most people didn’t know was that the wide receiver had endured heartbreaking tragedy earlier that day. The star and his wife, Morgan Goodwin-Snow, lost their baby during a premature labor. The couple had excitedly announced their pregnancy back in September as they happily awaited the birth of their little boy.

Unfortunately, on Sunday morning, the couple experienced a pain no parent should ever feel. Goodwin posted on Instagram : “We lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally and emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable.”

Taking the field later that day definitely required a lot of courage and strength, but Goodwin’s 83-yard touchdown clearly came at the right time. When he touched down, he fell to his knees and looked to the sky in prayer as his teammates rushed to surround him. The 49ers ended up outscoring the New York Giants 31-21 that night for their first win of the season. After the game, Goodwin did not stick around  to celebrate his win though, as he left the stadium to be with his family.

Goodwin’s wife, also a professional athlete, later posted on Instagram: “This was truly an amazing experience and it was also a tragic experience,” she said. “But that’s okay because we won’t stop fighting and we won’t give up on what God has in store for us. It’s just important for us to remember that things happen for a reason, even though we may question ourselves ‘why us.’ Our faith is strong.”

Our prayers go out to the Goodwin family, may the Lord comfort you during this difficult time.
