Janith Goedde, an 80 year old great-grandmother from Indiana, recently surprised her friends and family by donning the wedding gown she purchased six decades ago for just $69 to celebrate her and her husband’s 60th anniversary. Her granddaughter, Alison Goedde, shared an image of her beaming grandmother in the Chantilly lace gown on Twitter, and the image has quickly went viral.

All these years later, Janith was thrilled that she still fit into the dress. “I’ve lost 40 pounds. And it shows,” she told ABC News. “Everybody comments to me on it. When we came home that evening, one of the girls said, ‘I bet she can still get in her wedding gown. Where’s it at?’ I told them where it was in the attic and they went up there and got it. So I had to put it on.”
To celebrate their long-lasting marriage, the couple gathered with over 60 family members at a nearby inn a few days before their May 11, 2017 anniversary. Janith’s husband didn’t want an elaborate celebration, but he was happy to see the family come together and gush over his beautiful bride. “She still looks beautiful,” Joe Goedde, 84, told reporters.
The couple married in Haubstadt, Indiana on a sunny day in 1957. Janith’s bridesmaids wore pink, blue, green and yellow bridesmaids dresses complete with hoop skirts, a popular look at the time.
Janith claims there are two secrets to her and Joe’s long-lasting relationship. “Communication and prayer,” she said. “We’re looking forward to more anniversaries, but we’ll take what comes. We’ll stick it out together.” Congratulations to the Goeddes!
