Skin care is something that is vital to a lot of us. Whether it is to get clear and smooth skin or just to remove that unwanted blemish, most of us go around the malls all day looking for that specific product that can help sooth and cater to our needs.

But as the executive director of the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition Elizabeth Sword said, things aren’t always so black and white.

‘There are industry trade secrets and formulations that for industry reasons are kept from the consumer, this prevents the consumer from making fully informed decisions,’ Sword told Environ Health Perspex.

So what better way to bypass all these headaches and wallet pains than to create your own natural face cleanser and scrub? Coconut oil has some innate properties that are extremely beneficial to moisturizing the face. Because of their antimicrobial properties, it is perfect for cleaning the face.

The properties of coconut oil are also extremely beneficial in killing the bacteria that creates pimples. Coconut oil, since it is natural, will moisturize the skin without making your skin feel extremely dry after. However, be warned! Coconut oil is comedogenic, meaning it can clog your pores.

It is important to note that natural coconut oil, which is solid in its natural state, is advised since the anti-inflammatory properties that it possesses are fantastic at reducing the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

Besides coconut oil, baking soda is also essential in the face cleaning process since it is a perfect facial exfoliant.

Baking soda is perfect for removing blackheads and it is also great for soothing those nasty sunburns. By combining half a cup of coconut oil with half a cup of baking soda, you can create your own natural and homemade face cleansing agents.

All you need to do is melt the coconut oil so it’s soft, warm and runny and then mix it with the baking soda. Once the texture is sort of gritty and sandy, that’s when it should be applied to the face and scrubbed.
